Have heard about these, will one be any good as my daughter can't get a signal in her room from our wifi router, And what is it and how does it work and is it expensive, thank you.

Basically it sits between your wifi router and the device you want to connect, picks up the signal and repeats it. Here's an example.

The problem is, you don't know if it will work for you until you try it.

Make sure you have an N router as opposed to a G router.

An N router will send out a stronger signal than an older G router.
