Could someone please tell me how I can delete a "friend" on facebook?

If you go onto their page, you will see at the top right a square with a tick and the word "Friends". Hover over this and select "Unfriend" at the bottom of the list that pops up.

Goto their profile page, click the button labelled "friends" towards the top right, select unfriend. (I think the settings button that looks like a cog also has the unfriend option when you click it too)
