Removing an MP from office

I remember during the run up to the election, that there was a lot of rhetoric about being able to remove an MP from office, who wasn't carrying out their public function to the expectations of their constituency.

Did this ever come in to force? If so, what procedures would one need to follow to instigate such an action?
