i must be missing something when texting on my new phone.
On my old one, it would learn new words and afetr so many uses automatically store them. Or there was an option to spell a word and enter it into the dictionary.
With my new monte carlo, no matter how many times i spell my daughters name, it won't remember it!
Also, even on ABC, rather than T9, it won't let me spell words, it just keeps guessing and there's no option to say 'no, none of them you idiot!'

Do you think i am being an idiot? Surely it should be easier and better, with a new up-to-date model??

it's a monte carlo from orange
mmm, not seen one let alone used one of those
Doesnt say in the manual either
You should have kept the old one.

After all, there's a wise old adage "if it works, don't fix it."

ah.. it didn't work!
I love all other features on the phone. I thought i just might be missing a way in!
Why are you even using t9??

Install a proper qwerty keyboard and just type normally, I use one called thickbuttons, but there are loads of different keyboards.
Well there is the option, forget the predictive text feature. Would be a pain though. Maybe the handset needs resetting ?

No newer stuff isn't generally easier or better. It fits in more features you will never use, could be smaller so you don't hit the right keys. Maybe louder. But for sure not easier. I'm using a so called "smart phone", my first, and as soon as I need a new one I'm going back to a proper keyboard one. Just sick of it pretending I hit keys that I don't, or don't hit keys that I do, and bringing up menus that weren't asked for, and changing things when I'm not looking, or trying to encourage me to delete conversations that I've no intention of deleting. I don't know how many cherries went into the making of it, but it really is the pits.
"forget the predictive text feature. Would be a pain though."

Why would it be a pain? you don't need predictive text if you have a full QWERTY keyboard.
predictive text really annoys me, I switch it off.

no, that's what i'm saying - even without predictive, it won't let me spell a word out. When i'm on normal keypad, it won't let me ABC names. Her friends name is Elle, and when i try and spell it, it gives me ellen. I try to backspace but the whole word disappears!
My daughter 's name is stevie and it will only give me steve or steven! Again, if i try and backspace that last e in steve, to add ie, it just deletes the whole word. very very very annoying!
I get that on my phone although only on predictive, not 'as you type'
And for some reason it always puts quite after I have used lol - without fail, and it's damned annoying
Maybe go to your nearest Orange store and ask them?
