laptop screen faded and no picture

Hi all,
My hp pavilion laptop has lost its picture. when you start up the screen glows light grey, you can see some faded widhy washy objects like faded clouds if you look hard. the sart up procedure seems o.k. sound right, it plays the windows tune etc, but absolutely no picture. can I plug this into a monitor to see of the screen has failed? if so, how do i do it?

Sounds like your screens backlight might have gone.

If you have a VGA port on the laptop their is no reason why you can't take a feed to a monitor
