Bit long winded but-- I'm a teacher and wanted to use some Youtube videos in the classroom; I tried accessing Youtube at school but it's blocked so I downloaded the videos from Youtube at home (flv format) and put them on a memory stick. When I went to play them on the classroom computer (running Windows XP but very very old computer) they wouldn't work and said the file type wasn't supported. I downloaded the latest Flash player but that didn't help so downloaded something that said it would allow me to play flv files but that didn't work either. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Is that one that allows the computer to play flv files; think it's similar to the one I already tried?
It plays FLV format on my PC so I would guess it would on the school one too. You could also look for a program that converts the FLV format to a different one, there are loads of them about.
You just need any old FLV player- and set it to be the default for opening FLV files. Just google FLV, donwload one and you should be fine.

Thanks both; will try again on Monday!
A couple more suggestions for you:

This is the (superb) media player which is most frequently recommended here on AB, in the technical press and on BBC technology programs:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
It will play almost any type of media file.

However I rate this as even better!

Thanks Chris!
You could also download and install the "Format Factory" which will convert the FLVs to what ever file type you can use.
