The music is stored as a computer file, there are many different type of music file but the most common is called MP3.
The file is transferred from a computer to the Ipod and it can then be played. If your thinking of getting one it is very good but also very expensive.
Ipods can store a lot of music, somewhere aroung 1000 music tracks depending on how large the memory is.
Hope this helps
Inside an iPod sits a littel man with a big pile of CDs......
Sorry. Inside an iPod is a hard drive disc on which the data is stored, usually music files, but you can store lots of other stuff as well. There is an elegant interface (well it is Apple) which lets you chose the track or album or playlist or artist that you want to listen to, and thne listen to it through your earphones, or your domestic sound system with suitable cabling. When connected to a computer you can upload and download data to the iPod just like any hard drive, except that to transfer music tracks to the computer you have to get hold of some freeware.
The biggest ones can store about 10,000 tracks, and the playback quality is good. There is a nasty story that the internal battery will die after about three or four years, but all batteries dies and you can buy a new one.
