Question 1

When I type 1st or 2nd, etc, when I press the space bar, WORD turns the "st" or "nd" into superscript.

Can I stop WORD from doing that?

Question 2

If I type a letter, and then go to the "Mailings" tab (to print an envelope), can I set a new "default" for how far from the top and the left I want the address to be?

Q1 go File > Options > Proofing ?AutoCorrect Options [1st in the list]
then in the Autoformat As You Type tab the 2nd option is for fractions so untick that.
i meant the Ordinals checkbox not fractions
Bibbles in the right place but it's ordinals you need to untick, not fractions.
As he obviously realised :)
something about haste/speed comes to mind
Oh, and on the mailings... if you goto the the envelope bit and click the options button you can set the margins there..

But the mailings thing then defaults back to "automatic" next time I try it.

Thank you for your replies, guys x
I've been looking for an answer to Q2 but haven't come up with anything.

Thank you.

For some reason, the "automatic" seting puts the address right at the bottom of the envelope (standard A4 folded into 3 size).
how about changing the envelope size in the envelopes options?
it's quite an involved process...
