I am receiving the above error message upon trying to install a basic computer game onto my laptop.  It used to work but since updating with SP2 and other issues I've had it will no longer load.  I have gone to the Windows Update page to follow the repair instructions and it has made no difference.  There was then a fairly complex list of instructions for repair via MS DOS but again this didn't work.  Does anybody have any ideas of how to repair this simply?  I'm not overly technical i'm afraid!! LOL!  Many thanks!

This is due to spyware. Copy autoexec.nt from c:\windows\repair to c:\windows\system32 then make it read only. Install spybot search and destroy and adaware, update them and run them.

Wow!!!  To think I wasted the last 3 days trying to sort this problem out - should've known better - Answerbank never ceases to amaze me how many clever people there are out there.  j2buttonsw - I cannot believe you understood this and helped me out so simply!  I have spybot S&D so will run that and also follow your other instructions! Bless you - this had been driving me bonkers!!!  Jackie x
