usb port not working.!

last saturday i bought a card writer so that i could delete files from an sd card that i use to record from the radio. today i have just put my mp3 player ( and cardwriter) into the same usb port and it doesnt find/recognise either.? whats happened. ? is it the card writers fault.? thanks. ian

update.!! all usb ports at the back of the computer that control modem,mouse,printer and camera work ok. the front usb port doesnt. we,ve unplugged and re plugged, no joy. thanks

Have they ever worked?

The first obvious answer is to take the case off and check they are actually connected to a USB header on the motherboard, I've seen a fair amount of "custom build" systems that come in cases with front USB ports but the people that make the systems never actually connect the ports to anything.
