I'm thinking about putting a website together as a portfolio, and have no idea about what is the best deal available for getting it up and running. What are the costs and who can people recommend. Ideally I'd like to be able to store media online aswell. I have done some html so could design a site if necessary.

Thanks,

Stu

Don't know what you are looking for. Try http://www.moonfruit.com

If you want to create a website, you'll need webspace. If you want it looking more professional then a domain name (like www.yourwebsite.co.uk) couldn't hurt. Webspace can be got free, but you will find they stick adverts on it, and you might not be able to store media. You could try signing up with an ISP, like tiscali? I remember at one point they offered free webspace. You could sign up for pay-as-you-go surfing and just never use it. If you felt like paying for proper webspace, try:

www.webfusion.co.uk it doesn't seem too pricey.

The basic idea is to put your website on the space, and then buy a domain name to link to it. That way, when someone goes to the domain name, they'll see the site on the webspace.

Oh, on second thoughts, have a look here, it seems to compare many different free webspace providers, maybe you can find a suitable one?
