Buying an iPhone ....

Well I've just got a standard Nokia mobile phone but I think its about time I got an iPhone. But I don't know the first thing about them .... do they work anywhere ? Do I have to pay for broadband on top of my monthly contract? Which is an easy model for me to use? It would be mainly for calls of course, plus the internet and photos. I am not technical at all so need something easy .. and not an expensive contract. I am with Orange and my monthly contract fee is £15.00. thanks all !

Everyone I know who has an iphone loves them. There is a new one coming out soon though. There are other smart phones though. I was going to buy an iphone but settled for a Samsung Galaxy. If you buy it on a contract you`ll be paying about 35 per month for two years. If you buy it outright you`ll be paying out quite a lot in one go.

You wont get an Iphone on a cheap contract.

Why not go for an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S2 for example). Every bit as good as an iphone and can do practically everything an iphone can do.

Many people buy an iphone thinking that only an iphone can "do" those sort of things (touch screen etc) but an Android phone can also do them, at a less cost.

Apple are now the richest copmany in the world, and they got there by overcharging for everything they sell, and having a sort of "must have" brnad appeal that poseurs go after.

If you've managed so far without one, you probably don't need one. It would be "technology" for the sake of it.

I bought an i phone a couple of months ago on 3 network, 2000 minutes any network, 5000 texts and as much broadband as i want for £25 per month. Having given up my landline and broadband provider at £20 per month and my old mobile phone at £10 per month i am £5 per month better off. Plus i am going to scotland next week on holiday and taking my broadband with me. I watch sky sports on my laptop tethered to my i phone. I used 31 gb of internet last month at no extra charge. Very happy with it

To actually answer a couple of your questions...


They work anywhere you can get a signal, internet speed will depend on the type of signal you can get in any given area
Generally Iphone contracts have an internet allowance included.
All Iphone models are essentially the same when it comes to using them

And you'll be lucky to get a recent iphone on a cheap contract without paying a lot up front.

But you do seem to be thinking about buying one just because you want the kudos of owning an iphone when you've obviously not got a clue about them, the more normal way to buy things is decide what you want to do with a device and then pick something that suits your needs.

As above says, there are other, equally as good, smart phones available.

If you get one on contract it will cost you about £35 a month. This includes your calls and internet usage (up to a certain amount).On top of your usage if you go over the top it costs you a lot more. You just have to be watchful. The amount they give you included in your contract is usually enough for any person per month. I think they are like any new phone you would get, they just need getting used to how they work, but they are brilliant. I would love one, but cannot afford the contract fee, but my daughter and son both have one and they would not be without them. I have a Samsung Tocca Lite with a Giff Gaff sim card which cost me £5 per month. With internet usage it would be just £10 per month. That is brilliant value for money.
