When I went to log into FB I was presented with a message warning me that I had been trying to add friends that I dont know and If I continue my account will be suspended.

To my knowledge I have never invited anybody I dont know, is this kind of thing common or is someone messing with my account maybe.

I've never seen that message - I'd treat it with caution, can you take a screen shot of the message and email it to FB, asking them if it's genuine?

I think it is genuine because I couldn't log into FB until I had acknowledged the message. I cant get the message again to copy it.
Never seen that myself, but one of the first things I would do is change your log in password.
I almost certainly means that your FB account has been hacked. As SlackAlice says, change your password immediately and make sure that your security settings are as high as possible. Then post a message apologising if anyone gets any obscene material or requests for money from you.
I know nothing about Facebook nor have ever been there, nor want to, but it seems a strange message to me. I was under the impression the idea was that you added millions of so called friends, many of which you can not possible know.

As a precaution I think in your shoes I'd scan my PC with AV and malware checks. Make sure I didn't have a PC infection.
this happened to me over the weekend. I usually use my iphone for facebook but i got the message saying i had to log on from my pc as there was a warning - didnt know what the warning was until i logged on and it was exactly this.
Another reason why I give FB a very wide berth.
FB will never send that message . I think you need to contact FB and ask more details it .
A chap I know told me he'd been suspended last week for the same reason, I think he had sent requests so just assumed it was normal, I'll tell him about this. Don't think he has a pc problem though as he only has a phone.
