When I try to check the status of e-mail I have sent it says "you cannot check the status of internet mail" What other kind of e-mail is there & how can I find out if has been read? cheers

You can use a program like Outlook Express, with POP3 email and the like as provided by your ISP.
Using Microsoft Outlook Express, while writing a message you can request confirmation of an email being read - like this.
When your recipient opens their email, they will see a box like this (with Outlook), and if they click "Yes" you will recieve an email like this.
