Just went to run a bath and there he sat BIG and HAIRY ,had to flush him down the plughole but he clung on to the nonslip mat like a scotsman to a five pound note. OH is total rubbish at getting rid of the pest so no I will sit in the bath waiting for his head to pop up the overflow (Spider not OH)

oh the poor thing why would you do that?

I usually drape a towel over the bath and let them get out on their own.

Deliberately flushing them down a plughole is horribly cruel :-(
They don't bother me. I used to just pick them up and put them out the window. Don't have to do that now, my cat eats them.

Survival of the fittest!!!
How would you feel if a 300` giant found you and flushed you down the bathhole? Next time, simply get a mop, gently ensconce frightening creature and shake him out of the window. No need to throw mop out as well. LOL
Poor spider, how could you?!!!!!
another method , get an empty cooks matchbox ,open one end , put open end over spider and then close carefully , take box outside and reopen .
couldn't resist...
Cruueeel....I keep a glass or plastic pot with lid, in the bathroom for this....simply put pot over spider...slowly slide lid or piece of paper, between bath and and said spider, upend pot with spider inside and release outside.
Please dont kill him! Remember the saying-if you want to live and thrive let a spider run alive.
Poor little thing.
How COULD you!!??
Karma will get you....naughty!

I actually get quite upset when people get rid of spiders....they are really the good guys of the insect/creepy-crawlies kingdom.
totally agree with Pasta.

Spiders catch and eat flies, now those I do hate!
I agree with Pasta and BOO. I can't touch spiders but I would never harm them.

Anyway a spider in the bath is not as bad as the toad that was sitting on my loo when I lifted the lid yesterday to have a wee!! I ran out of the room pdq!!!!
I always dangle a long strip of loo paper in the bath and more often than not the spider climbs up to safety.
When lil pasta was small,we lived in an old-ish cottage that always had spiders of the big, hairy variety.....we adopted one,and called him 'Harry the Hairy Spider'....I didn't want my daughter to be afraid of creepy crawlies.
She then went on to keep snails.......
Bloody hell Lottie, what did you do with it? I'd have scarpered too.
LOL@ Lofty!

There was the time I was visiting the in-laws up in Scotland,...and there was a bat in the shower....heehee!...Just stared up at me-looking shocked.
That's not how you spell turd ;-p
Ran and got Mr LL from the greenhouse yelling "There is a frog sitting on the loo". He calmly explained that the frog was a toad and picked him up gently and put him back outside. He must have come up from the drain into the loo because the lid was down. There is a small gap between the loo seat and the lid so he must have had a tight fit to sit in there.
Ha, ha Snags, that is just what I thought it was when I first spied Mr Toad!!!
That's not the thing to do ! As you've discovered, the spider is not necessarily flushed away; there's generally a U-bend in the pipe, which saves it and it climbs back up; if you succeed, you've just killed one of our utterly harmless and very useful creatures, which is, understandably, a lot more frightened of you than you are of it.
Drape a towel over, near where it is, so it can climb up the towel and over the edge of the bath. You can always wash the towel afterwards, if you're that squeamish. It will then disappear. Remember that there are spiders in your home already and plenty of insects, which they live on, which you never see, except by chance. Set free, this one will go back to being out of sight.
