I am looking for a printer for business use, mainly for printing black. My main priority is to keep the cost of ink cartridges low. Which printers are the most economical to run in the long term?

Lived with an Epson for 8 years as a black & white business printer with colour - lasted me well.

I would go with Epson every time - but be careful. Don't get sucked in with deals for circa 40 for a Lexmark or anthing else All -In -One/Scanner/Copier/Fax etc. Might be good quality but you will be stung with cartridges.

Thing to look at is whether replacement cartridges have the print head contained within. My Lexmark does and they are damned expensive.

Pay more money up front for the printer and the cartridges are basically just that - ink cartridges with ink in them. The head being part of the machine.

Thanx Billy. Argos give the price of replacement cartridges but don't say how much ink is in them or how long they last.

You would be better off investing in a laser printer, they last longer and one toner cartridge will last for ages.

I agree with mattie. You can get a colour laser printer for less than 250. The toner cartriges can be pricey, but they;ll last for several thousand pages. You're also more likely to get networking as standard on a laser than an inkjet.
