A friend of mine has just narrowly missed falling prey to a scam regarding the sale of her car. She advertised it in Auto Trader and within hours of it appearing she had an offer. The person didn't want to see it, just wanted to collect it asap. The email was in very poor English although they gave an English name. My friend called Auto Trader because she couldn't actually find her car on the site. Cutting a long story short, it is a well known scam and the next communication from the person would be asking for money to travel to collect the car. Of course, some people feel sorry for the person and send the money only to never hear from them again. Be warned, spread the word if you know anyone selling a car.
If the person hasn't got the money to travel to collect the car then they can't have the money to buy it. You would have to be really stupid to fall for this scam.
Some scams are quite clever and some, like this one, are quite obvious.
Like daffy654 said, if they haven't got the money to go and get the car, then where's the money to pay for it ?????
Anyone who falls for this scam is nothing short of an idiot in my opinion !!
There was one from Europe not so long back, purchase your car " How this was done, I do not know" paid for it + shipping costs, ask you to take it to a port of exit, Bye Bye never to be seen again & Oh, non payment.
Now, let's see,
You want to buy my car, and you want me to pay for your journey here so that you can collect it, I guess that'll be OK as i've just won the Nigerian lottery, so I'm well flush!
Now rearrange the following; DFOSOF!
apparently i have a couple of million waiting for me, all i need to do transfer £5,000 to an account to release the funds....what a result ! cant wait to ring the bank manager to arrange it...this time next year i will be a millionare ...
im sure there will be another one along shortly, in the meantime i can give my bank details to UPS & DHL so they can release all those parcels they have waiting for me.
