You'll need a different charger for the kindle, due to differing mains supply voltages. US Standardized at 120 V. UK Voltage tolerance of 230 V +10%/−6% (216.2 V to 253 V), widened to 230 V ±10% (207 V to 253 V) in 2008. The system supply voltage remains centred on 240 V.
I have a Kindle Touch bought in America before Christmas and charge it on my computer. I went on a cruise holiday recently for almost a month and borrowed my granddaughters phone charger, it worked a perfectly.
