Help watching the a tv programme from a field without a tv

Hi,

I'm taking a school trip away camping for the weekend 20, fifteen year old boys desperate to watch the England match tomorrow. We have electricity. My question is if I buy a freeview box and connect this to a projector will this work? As you can see technology not my subject, many thanks for advice.

Sorry for confusion, should have proof read before sending. Trip is tomorrow until Monday so yes I need to be able to do this on Sunday night. If my idea won't work is there any way to do this. (Taking them to the pub is not an option) Many thanks

Not sure if this will work, but could you connect a laptop to the projector so you could watch it via the BBC iplayer perhaps?

A freeview box outputs a tv signal and it requires a tv tuner to convert that signal into the video and audio that we watch/listen to. A tv set has a tuner built in to do just that but unless you have a special projector that won't have a tuner to do the conversion.

Technically it could work.

You'd need a freeview box with an output that matches one of the inputs on the projector and you'd need an antenna to pick up the signal, the two most likely options for this would be

1) scart on the freeview box and composite on the projector (with correct leads/adaptors)
2) HDMI

You'd also need a suitable TV aerial, depending on how far away from the transmitter and local ground relief this could be anything between a small indoor type aerial, or a hi-gain aerial on top of a flaming great big pole.

So it could be possible, but if you're asking the question you won't be able to do it by tomorrow.

Just take them all to a local pub to watch it!

What???

Very few freeview boxes have RF modulators in them! the outputs are normally SCART or HDMI which don't need a tuner at all.

Thank you all very much, I did say I wasn't very technical. Problem solved we have hired the Royal British Legion Hall which is 2 miles away and they will have to walk but hey if they want to watch they're going to have to suffer a little pain to get there and back. They drive a hard bargain though £200 for the evening's hire!! £10 per boy and they are all very happy..here's just hoping we win!
