Hi guys, this is my first post so be gentle. I have a Samsung phone which is a couple of years old, nothing flashy. All the numbers entered in my phone book correctly identify the caller except one. It's my mum's number and it comes up as unknown! Obviously I know it's her but it is a bit annoying. Does anyone know why this is happening and can I do anything about it? By the way I've been looking at the site for a couple of days now and you lot are nuts!! In a very nice way x

Your mum MAY have set her phone to hide her caller ID, this would make your phone show an unknown caller ID.
also, have you got it as two entries eg mum home & ice mum?
Question Author
It's her land line number as she doesn't use her mobile
Welcome to AB
^^I think they may be right^^
don't forget the ICE mum entry
It still holds that your mum has her landline set to hide my caller ID when phoning out, but I'm guessing.
Check you've not got the number in the phone book twice. if you have it won't know which one to display so it displays unknown.
Apologies to 888, who'd already said that ^
Does your mum have an ex directory number?
Is the display literally showing "unknown" ? As if it is that would be the network saying they are not pepared to give you the calling line identity, and not an issue with your handset.

When you have 2 entries in your directory for the same number it is more likely to give up on the name and show the number instead.

Many thanks,I'll check with her about that tomorrow Also just a quick question, how do I put a picture by my user name?
Hi fduggan

Try this ... get your mum to call you by dialing 1470 before your mobile phone number, e.g. if your mobile number is 07123 456789, get your mum to dial 1470 07123 456789.

If her phone number then displays on your phone, it means that ordinarily her number is withheld. She could program your number into her phone's memory to use 1470 all the time ...

You say you know it's her, so it must show her number. How did you enter the number into your phone? Did you type it manually? Maybe you've added some additional characters by accident? Look at it closely. Otherwise just delete the phone book entry(ies) that are there for her and add it again from the call history so you don't type it incorrectly!
Question Author
I did type it manually but there's no mistakes as I phone her from the phone book and surely it wouldn't go through if it wasn't correct? Would it?
