They are different technologies - NTL, generally being cable and BT using the 'phone line.

I have always found cable to be more robust and reliable both with NTL and other cable providers.

Yep technically cable is best but the down side is that the company of which you speak is an administrative nightmare.You're ok until you have to change or fix anything then you will experience the full horror of incompetence the like of which you would not have imagined possible.

NTL do ADSL through phone lines as well as cable.BT has download limits on some packages, so does Wanadoo. If you want a nightmare ISP with a call centre in INDIA that does not support Migration and when you leave them it takes weeks to get your line cleared so you can go elsewhere, then try tosscali (Oops.. Tiscali). I've been waiting over 6 weeks now to get my line cleared.. they LIE to you saying theyve put a request in to BT wholesale to remove their marker off your line, but BT have no record.. I've got OFCOM involved and theyre trying to make Tosscali do the decent thing.. Tiscali are operating in a way that companies are not supposed to.. office of fair trading and DTI and Trading Standards, Watchdog, OFCOM, etc do not bother them. Stay well clear.

If you want ADSL broadband go for one with no port blocking (so you can use p2p programs and gaming, etc), and one with no download restrictions.

I am going to go with NAIMS (Network And Internet Management Services) for my ADSL. No download limits or ports blocked. www.naims.co.uk

I forgot to add that I know someone on BT and they aren't too pleased with the service. Also, most ISP's tie you into a 12 month contract. Naims (and some others) have a 3 month initial contract then it's a monthly contract, and they do support migration. Remember, the cheapest ISP's offer a cheap service.. Don't be fooled by the glossy ads in magazines and on tv.

I have been using NTL cabled broadband for 2 years now,and have found them to be excellent.I have never had a problem with the broadband, but the cable tv has broken a couple of times.On both occasions, I had an engineer out next day to fix the problems.Although the broadband can be a bit expensive (I pay �37.99 pm for 3MB connection),the connection I have is uncapped,which is great for me as I am a big downloader.I would recommend them.

I had NTL Broadband for 2 years and never had a problem. Now on Wanadoo and thats fine also but it has a download limit, NTL's limit was something like 1Gb a day which is loads.

Yes, I've been with NTL for just over a year now and had no problems really, in the early days with them I experienced some e-mail problems, but I found their technical helpline very good.  I started on 600Kb's broadband which was soon upgraded to 750Kb at no extra charge, and now they have just upgraded that to a massive 2Mb's also at no extra charge!  The download limit is no problem at 1Gb a day!  Go for it!

I'm with Virgin - no complaints whatsoever - the set up went well, the service is good, the price is reasonable (�19/month) and you're not tied into any contract.
