Email attachment problem

I am finding that when I prepare an email and click 'Send' the paperclip symbol appears indicating an attachment, which I haven't made or intended. When opened it shows a copy of the email I have just prepared. Can anyone explain please why this happens and how do I stop it.

Please help us to help you, by telling us which email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, etc) or which web-based system you're using.

Sorry, I should have realised .... I am using Outlook Express 6.

Try temporarily disabling your antivirus program. (AVG, for example, has been reported as causing this problem for some people when "Certify Outgoing Mail" is enabled).

Buenchico, Thanks for trying but I'm sorry to say - no luck. I've tried disabling anti-virus (part of Norton Internet Security) but it makes no difference. I have however discovered that preparing emails using 'plain text' instead of HTML does not present the same problem. Fortunately not too serious, but I'd like to discover the reason and stop it happening.

Whilst searching around I found a clicked box saying 'send all in plain text'. I unticked that and my original problem seems to have disappeared.

All that means then is you were sending emails as HTML before, which as default attaches a plain text copy of the email as an attachment so people who have mail programs that can't deal with HTML formatted emails can still read the email you sent.
