SKY has just informed me my DDebit is going up £1.50p a month. If I cancel, would a Freeview box be just as beneficial and how much do they cost?

We paid about £40 for our freeview box - however, there is a rumour that we may have to pay £200 for having the freeview box adjusted when the 4G network comes on stream next year.
^^ and PS although you get a load of channels on freeview, you will lose your Sky Sport if that's important to you.
That's for you to decide, How much sky do you watch compared to freeview channels?
I've often thought about it, but the other half would kill me as she watches the movie channels quite a lot.
Not sure what Sky package you are on but I don't think you will get the same choice on freeview without subscribing. You can get a freeview box from approx £15 upwards

Hi boxtops, What is 4G network? SKY sport isn't important to me but hubby might be a tad dissapointed! And Everton, I haven't checked what channels are on Freeview - yet! I like a good murder mystery myself!
why not downgrade to just the ''entertainment pack'' potty64??...loads of programmes on there...i have a freeview box in the conservatory...they are ok but no sports packages on them...
Not technical, but I understand it's the next generation mobile phone network. This is from wiki

In telecommunications, 4G is the fourth generation of cell phone mobile communications standards. It is a successor of the third generation (3G) standards. A 4G system provides mobile ultra-broadband Internet access, for example to laptops with USB wireless modems, to smartphones, and to other mobile devices. Conceivable applications include amended mobile web access, IP telephony, gaming services, high-definition mobile TV, video conferencing and 3D television.
boxtops, will it make and receive phone calls? lol......and brew up?

Just had a senior moment! My TV is only 6 months old so I think, maybe, I've got freeview on it already - Haven't I??!! Hang On! I'll have a look!! Do I have or need to retune it? No good at this stuff - just got the hang of my mobile phone!!
Question Author
Thx Everton for the web site. I haven't got a built in Freeview by the way! Thx everyone for all the suggestions. Better go & put my thinking cap on!
i thought sky had frozen their prices till aug/sept
Question Author
pond50, Yes, thats right. We're nearly there!
As you've now realised, your almost new TV should have Freeview built into it. (Please tell us which model it is. TVs without Freeview haven't been widely available for several years)

However if you cancel your Sky subscription your existing Sky box will still receive all of the 'free to air' satellite channels, which are listed here:

Hi Buenchico, Just realised (DOH!) my BUSH tv in my bedroom appears to have built in Freeview. But the JVC in the lounge doesn't & that's only 6 months old. I cant find the info for it ANYWHERE!!1 Going nuts looking for it & blaming hubby on the assumption he threw the info away!
On the front it says CV3.
Somewhere in the menu will be "settings". Make sure it is set to "Digital Tv and not analouge!
The model number for your JVC TV should be on the back of it.
Question Author
Everton, Definitely on Digital! So what about 'Settings' then? Am now running down stairs to check back for model number. Gasp gasp!
Question Author
EUREKA! Buenchico - Found model number! LT-26DA20J. ????
