I`ve been trying to copy pictures and music via the DVD writer drive for a little while. I have tried various brands of discs. If I try in itunes it burns but won`t finish. It then says "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4000)
In Media Player it (most of the time) just says "not responding". With a different disc I managed to burn. I didn`t see if it got as far as finishing because I went out. I got "Windows Media Player encountered an error while burning. Verify that the burner is connected properly and that the disc is clean and not damaged". I haven`t burned many discs so I`m sure it`s clean and I know the disc is OK. At first I thought the player had a problem reading discs but obviously not. I was going down the road of getting a new DVD writer drive but when I click on my system it says that the DVD is functioning. Well it clearly isn`t. Thing is - I don`t know what to do now. Do I go out and buy a new DVD writer? Do I try and get it fixed? It doesn`t seem clear what the problem is. It`s HP Pavillion dv4.

Sorry, I`ve written that in a bit of a confusing way. It didn`t manage to burn in Media Player but it appeared to be copying OK. Obvously not though.
I think you can only burn 'data' files to DVD, so if the music is in 'audio' format (eg. wma rather than mp3) that may be your problem.
