printer inks costs and printer

can someone tell me why printer ink is so expensive. to replace mine for my canon mp495 costs nearly £40, and a new printer can be bought for £38. with inks included. im fed up of paying through the nose for ink. i have tried the compatible ones that are a few quid cheaper but dont last 5 mins. can anyone recomend a printer that uses cheap inks and does good quality photo prints.

I refuse to buy the correct ink for my computer.... it costs far too much. I get my cartridges from ebay as I do use a lot. far less expensive and just as good.
