now to be in olive green packs with graphic images of cancer images on them
to me this could be pointless as it will be a matter of days before there will be a rush on light plastic nicely logoed cig cases to buy to put your fags in
(like we used to only mine was metal) non smoker now but each to their own choice

Possibly true, could revive a long-lost industry for the manufacture of silver or silver-gilt cigarette cases.

Cigarette packaging in the UK has the graphic warnings and images on and I don't know a single smoker who have gone and purchased another case.

This is the most ridiculous move to curb smoking that's bound to end up here one day. I'm a smoker and I don't believe any smoker started because they liked the packaging but because they saw someone else doing it.
It actually makes me angry.

it is rather absurd, it won't deter hardened smokers, they will as you said stick the cigs in another box, case.

well i started because i loved everything American in thev 60s so Camels did it for me loved the pack and all it stood for so too for lucky strike
it was the image alone that started me smoking, btw im in the uk and English

A few years back I was standing at a bus stop having a tab, with quite a few people in the queue. A precocious young girl joined the queue, turned to me and said to me very loudly, "Smoking is bad for you health, you know", to which I replied, "not as bad for your health as talking to a strange man like me could be to yours!"

Wonder how many fags you have to smoke before you are hooked for life? Not more than a couple of packets I'd think.
Most start from peer pressure is my guess not cos it's a pleasant thing to do at first....sick as a dog first time I tried but like most youngsters I was determined to be like my pals....daft ha'porth!
Smoked for over 30 years before I managed to stop.
