I got a tv last week that does not receive analogue channels only digital but the problem is that it cannot pick up the signal from our distributor box in the house. Are all new TVs being made not to receive analogue or will some still receive the signal.

Hasn't analogue been switched off now in all areas.
All new TV's will only pick up digital. Analogue has been phased out.

Yes but as I say the problem I have is I can't receive the signal from the distributor box in the attics going to different rooms in the house which is carrying a Sky tv signal and a dvd player signal.
Currently... some will, some won't
We have an aerial booster in our attic. Sorry, not very technically minded but is that what you might need.
A TV can't receive analogue signals if they are not being sent out - which is the situation now.
I am not an expert, but if you plug the aerial into the feed from the distributer box, then press the tv remote to get aux or satellite, you will pick up the sky TV signal. you cannot get analogue TV anymore, and as your tv will have built in freeview, the other option is to erect an aerial in the loft or on the roof.
Some TVs currently on sale have BOTH an analogue tuner AND a digital one, whereas others ONLY have a digital tuner.

Tell us the make and model and we'll be able to check the specification for you (and if possible, to tell you how to fix the problem).

Sorry to correct you, but up here in Geordieland we are still on analogue TV. Our sets are steam-driven. We are awaiting delivery of the new ones which run on gas, but we may have problems in finding enough florins for the meter.
Up here in north east England we still have the analogue signal until September 12th. Then Northern Ireland goes digital in October. Unless you live in either of these 2 areas, you won't have an analogue signal any more.
South shields is (understandably) the last but one place that will move over to the new technology.
It may be new technology but most evenings my tv does a lot of squeaking and many impressions of oxo cubes. EVEN after retuning.
Chuck, you don't mean to tell me you are Sand Dancer?
Do you have an 'old school' VCR (essentially an external analogue tuner) through which you can route the RF signal and output that signal to the TV, providing that VCR has output acceptable by the TV (e.g. SCART, component, etc.)?

Chris, what would I be looking for in the specfication which will show whether it has a dual tuner?
"what would I be looking for in the specfication which will show whether it has a dual tuner?"

Shockingly.....The words.... "dual tuner"
Since all analogue TV signals were switched off in late June, with the Dover transmitter being the last to be changed to digital only on 27th June, then there is NO analogue signals for your TV to receive, and as such no TV's are now manufactured capable of receiving these signals. You might be able to buy an old TV, but as there are no more analogue signals to be received it'd be a waste of time.
^^ sorry must read all replies oops!
Is case I was being too factious..

by dual. I also mean any of the normal synonyms for "dual" such as..

Two, twin, double, twin... and so on
Another big clue is a button on the handset which enables you to switch between the two tuners. On many handsets its simply labelled 'A/D' (for analogue/digital) or something very similar. On others you have to go via the 'Source' button, which lets you choose between the two tuners or an external feed.

If you're still struggling, Flobby, simply tell us the make and model number and we'll do the work for you. (If you've not got the box or manual handy, the model number should be on the back of the set).
