Carakeels PC keeps shutting down completely, all fans and internal lights etc turn off, some times it will allow us to turn it back on straight away, other times it will take a few minutes or and hour.

I blasted all the dust out with a compressor (it was pretty clogged up) it is now spotlessly clean but still keeps doing it.

Im assuming that because it just shuts down completely it must be the PSU, is this correct?

I would have said it was overheating but you say you have cleaned it out.

Make sure all the fans are running, particularly the one in the heat sink above the CPU.

The CPU can get very hot very quickly and if this fan is not running it may cause the CPU to get too hot and shut the computer down.

Note the CPU fan does not always start straight away, only when some "work" is going on, so dont worry if the CPU fan does not start as soon as the computer is switched on.

The CPU fan is coming on immediately as are all the fans,The case also has two fans blowing in and one fan sucking out as well as CPU and PSU fans so it is pretty well cooled (its a gaming case)

actually 3 fans blowing in.

Ok, I took a gamble and installed a new PSU, time will tell.
If the new PSU hasn't solved the problem you might want to try putting some thermal paste on the CPU, it sometimes dries out and causes overheating.
I have the SIW software on my machine. It is an analysis and reporting package which includes temperature monitoring.

Available from http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.php

Make sure you get the free home use version if you want it.
Youo can keep an eye on the CPU core temps quite easily.

Although it does sound more like a faulty PSU to me.

Thanks chuck, will try that and monitor situation.
Just make sure you decline all the "extras" it will try and make you install when you install it.

So far it is running well with new PSU, been running all day with no glitches so hopefully problems solved.
