WinXP - "Problem with shortcut" and a curly arrow! Help!

Oh I don't understand this :(
I moved some documents to My Pictures, as I've done loads of times before, but some of them say "no preview available" and the thumbnails have acquired a curly arrow in the bottom left corner and a box appears saying there is a problem with a shortcut and do I want to delete?
No, I don't - I just want it to work like all the others!
All you geniuses out there - please help a poor, struggling old lady or I shall have to go back to my typewriter

You didn't move the pictures, you have created a short cut to the pictures but left the pictures in the original location..

You can delete the shortcuts (any icon with the arrow) and then try moving the pictures again. (I hope you didn't delete them in the original location)

I'd guess you tried to move them using copy and paste but missed the paste option in the menu slightly and selected paste shortcut instead.

As a matter of interest, why are you moving documents to "My Pictures"?

No, I didn't copy - they were in my "recent documents" so I sent them to "my pictures" to drag them into the folder. That's when I noticed they all had this blessed arrow on.
Chuck, deleted the ones in the folder as you suggested and went back to "my documents" and I got the same error message there too.
Any more ideas?
When I first scanned these documents, btw, I sent them to "My pictures" and they never arrived. That's why I was looking for them in recent documents"

VHG - mainly because I scanned them so they looked like pictures. They are for forwarding to someone abroad so I thought it would be easier to attach them as photos. It seemed logical to me at the time

Thinking about it...

If the shortcuts weren't working then the original file no longer exists.

So you've either moved the original file, or deleted them, the easiest (and possibly only) option is going to be scan the documents again.

If they are documents you're scanning for emailing then you'd be better off scanning them as a PDF rather than a "picture"

Very Heavy Goods - I've only just got used to Jpegs.
I feel I'm out of my depth here.
I shall go back to the Scanner Wizard and see if I can get it to work again and spend the rest of the afternoon fighting with it and looking for PDF's, whatever they are.
I could do with a toy boy who is a computer wizard - how are you two fixed?

Thanks for all your help. Between you, I've managed to suss it. Deleted all the shortcut thingys, started again with the scanning and this time it's gone a dream. Phew!
