I normally get between 5 and 10 spam e-mails a day but in the past few days I have been getting 200-300 and it is a real nuisance as occasionally something important, like an electricity bill, slips in. Is there anything that I can do, apart from closing down that account?

It's not just outlook - probably every email service whether pc or internet based includes being able to mark emails as junk/spam so that in future any from that sender go directly into a junk/spam folder rather than your inbox.
