Hi,
I have a Canon EOS1000 SLR and 2 excellent lenses. Is it possible to use these on a Canon DSLR.

Thx

Are the lenses Canon presumably? I was the same as you and bought just the EOS1000D body. The lenses work fine.
All Canon EOS lens are a direct fit to any EOS camera , digital or film.
You will need an adapter if you want to use a Canon FD lens on an EOS though. Let me know exactly which lens you have and I can tell you if they will fit.
I believe the focal lengths change ie a 50mm lens will act as a 75mm (roughly) on a digital format - least my Nikon ones do.
Some of the top of the range DSLRs have full frame sensors so you get the same equivalent focal length as a 35mmfilm camera.
Correct shoota, a film camera lens will have a focal length around 50% longer when used on a DSLR. For example a 'standard' 50mm lens will be around 75 to 80mm on a DSLR. It varies slightly with diffrent models of DSLR.
This is an advantage as a standard 50mm lens can be obtained for as little as £10 on ebay and will be an excellent portrait lens of 80mm or so on a DSLR .
jomifl , yes correct again but a 'top of the range' DSLR will cost in the £5000 range too much for most of us.

Sounds pretty technical for a Luddite like me. The lens I want to swap is a Canon 80/200 Ultrasonic from an EOS 1000F.

Thx for all the answers.
What are the numbers and letters around the lens glass ?
Just take the lens off the 1000F and try it on the DSLR, it should fit straight on exactly as it fits to the film camera. If it does not go straight on then you need an adaptor.
As I said there are only 2 types of Canon lens the EOS ones and the FD ones.
if it is an FD lens it will say FD somewhere on it, normally around the front glass of the lens.

Eddie,
It doesn't say FD and it came off a an EOS camera. I don't have an DSLR yet as I'm trying to work out whether I should just buy the body.
Thx
The sony a850 and a900 are full frame DSLRs, you can get a new one (suposedly ex display, but not really as mine had never been out of it's box) for £1400 if you look around.
