Apologies first for being obtuse. I see posts, or parts of posts, written in italics. How do you do that?

Put [i] without any gaps either side of the word/prhase you want to be in italics.
[ i ] like this [ i ] , but no gaps between the square brackets and lower case i.

you are using 1 not i as in [i] either side....
Try an 'i' the letter, rather than a '1' the number. And no spaces before and after the phrase.
No, not the digit '1' in square brackets, the lower-case letter 'i'. Try again.
