Is my headphone problem on my Htc Desire Hd a software problem or a problem with the phone?

Hi, i've had my Hd hd for a while now and recently my headphones have suddenly stopped working.

If you twist the jackplug around sometimes you can hear crackling and the music in one ear but 9/10 you don't hear nothing and what's made it stranger is the same thing happens when i use bluetooth headphones as i can hear crackling but no music so this can't be a jackplug problem can it?

I've used both sets of headphones in my computer and both work fine.

Can someone help me resolve it as i'd like to resolve this myself as money's a bit thin on the ground and i don't fancy being phoneless for a while whilst my phone service provider fixes it.

Is the problem unique or a common one?

Just had a look on google and some people have rebooted their phones?

How do i reboot my phone?

Will rebooting it cause any loss in information or apps?
Rebooting usually means turn it off and on again. My HTC has a restart option when pressing the power button.
The symptoms would seem to indicate a faulty lead or connector. Can't see that rebooting your phone is gonna help with that.

Would restarting it help daffy? I've had my phone turned off everynight but haven't restarted it.

Rojash, would this affect the bluetooth headphones as well? What should i do?
