getting new phone delivered tomorrow htc desire c.
as its my 1st android phone and i'm new to all this do i have to put an anti virus on it for going on the net! thx

I never did for my HTC desire and its been fine the whole time.
If you plan to install lots of third party app's then it might be a good idea to go with a small sized app that will protect you, for example if you go to the Google Play store and search for AVG. That is only 2.37MB and will ensure your phone is protected.

I stuck avast mobile on mine - doesn't seem to eat up to much cpu time & makes me feel a bit happier when I download apps.

No, you don't. Just don't download anything you don't recognise/understand to it.
