WIndows 8 Microsoft account and desktop titlebars

I've just upgraded to Windows 8 and whenever I try to log in to the Microsoft account (e.g. when trying to install something from the app store) using a valid hotmail account it tells me that it can't connect to the service right now.

Since internet access is ok, as evidenced by me posting this, can I assume that the service is currently down? Is there any way to find that out?

And if anyone happens to know how to adjust the height of a window titlebar in desktop mode I would be grateful for the info. I can now find a setting for the title text size and the titlebar height adjusts automatically - but it stops shrinking before the smallest text size is reached and I would like it that bit smaller just as I had on Windows 7.

I too will be upgrading so would be interested to hear your thoughts. My Vista PC is several service packs and security updates out of date and it won't allow me to update despite many tries so a cheap upgrade is just the ticket.

This PC is a dog on start-up too and W8 is meant to be much quicker.

How long did they upgrade take btw?

Keeping all my applications, data etc., it took 70 minutes from when I ran setup.exe on the disc until it was all installed and waiting for me to do something at the apps start screen.

I've deleted most of the apps on the start screen because I'm not interested in them and haven't given IE10 much of a go yet; everything is running as it was on W7, bootup is a bit quicker and so it's mostly a question of finding where one has to go for various system settings to make it work just how I want.

I should add that for the titlebar height if it takes a registry setting change to achieve it then I'm quite happy to do that.

I have solved the account problem by creating a new live.co.uk account instead of using my existing hotmail account.

But I would still appreciate an answer to the titlebar height problem.
