Virgin Tivo Box Query

We changed to the Tivo box about a month ago and really like it.
We've set up our series record as before for a few shows as we went away on holiday for two weeks and didn't want to miss the latest series of Law & Order SVU! Anyway, when we returned & sat down to watch our recordings we found that the earliest recordings had been deleted. This isn't too much of a problem as they are in the box 'recently deleted' but wondered if this was normal practice or have we done something wrong?
Am sure someone out there will know the answer so thanks in advance.

You've probably set the series link to only have so many episodes, 5 say, and so when it finds a new one to record it deletes an old one to leave the 5, you can easily change it under the manage series link option
