Ipad

I want to buy an Ipad for my other half, but haven't a clue about these. He will use it for work, photos, presentations, etc. and will have to be top of the range, largest memory, fastest speed all singing all dancing. Cost not necessarily a problem. What have I got to ask for please.

are you sure its an ipad you want they van be very restrictive, perhaps a tablet that runs with window 7 would be better.

Just go to any place that sells Apple products, like PC World and tell them you want to spend as much money as possible....that should do the trick !

I suspect that woodstock is also using the term iPad as a generic term for any tablet.

If it's going to be used for work you might be better of getting a microsoft surface.

As you say yourself, you haven't got a clue, maybe asking your other half what would be most suitable for them might be a good idea, instead of spending well over £500 on something that might not be right.

I am not sure you can buy a tablet anywhere that runs Windows 7.

Windows 8 maybe, but not Windows 7.

Note that some tablets are wi fi only, which means you need to be near a wi fi router, or at a wi fi hotspot, to get to the internet.

Others are wi fi AND 3G, which means it has a phone sim in it and it can also use the phone Sim to get to the internet.

Buying one that is 3G will add a lot to the cost, but he may not need one with a 3G sim, so waste of money paying extra for that if he does not need it.

But I agree with Chuck, if he is going to use it for work then it is very risky spending £500 or more for a device that may not be right.

Also note that an iPod is a tablet, and loads of other people make tablets, like Samsung, Google and so on.

Dont get sucked into thinking if you want a tablet it has to be an iPad, there are plenty of alternatives.

In fact NEXT WEEKS Radio Times (not this weeks) has a supplement about how to choose a tablet.

Thanks for your responses. Didn't want to mention this to other half as I wanted it to be a complete surprise. However, there appears to be more to this Ipad/tablet lark than I had bargained for. Will look to the Radio Times with interest then.
