Calling All Excel Experts...

On Excel 2007/2010, I would like to know, is there a way of putting various dates all in "02/01/2013" format, lined up horizontally, in order with oldest date to newest day ?

So, on the spreadsheet, the dates in each sell :

09/10/2012 12/09/2012 1/10/2012 19/08/2012 ...... etc etc

Lined up horizontally, but to be put in order.

Anyone help ? I have tried "Oldest to Newest" sort function, didn't work :(

I'm no expert but I do use Excel.

If you put the first date in cell A1 (in one of the date formats) then in A2 put "=A1+1" it puts the next date, then you copy the calculation into A3 etc.

However I suspect you just have a collection of dates with different gaps between them. I'll try it out.

I've had this problem in the past and I think you need to set the cell style to calendar.....if I recall correctly!

Sorting oldest to newest should work for a random list of dates, make sure the row is formated for dates, that might work.

Rather than having formula in each cell
type the 1st date in eg A1, the second date in B1. highlight the 2 cell and using the little black square in the corner, drag across as far as you want. This will increase/decrease by the same increment

Sorting a column is easy. I can't think immediately how to do rows.

Yes, i have a collection of dates lined up horizontally and want them in order. I tried the sort - didnt work. I think dates dont seem to sort horizontally ?

Factor ....... could you sort a column on a spare area of spreadsheet, then automatically have them copied to a row of your choice.
Or is that rather longwinded?

Highlight the Row, go to Data tab at top middle of sheet, press Sort A-Z button, box will come up asking for Row, sort by, choose the correct row number, Sort On choose the word 'Values', Order choose oldest to newest. That seems to do the trick for me. Sounds more complicated than it actually is.

^ I had to do another step though since it defaults to 'sort by column'. I had to select Options and then choose 'left to right'

if you use right-click to bring up the context menu then one of the paste options is to transpose the entries i.e. swap between horizontal and vertical, and vice versa
