Dictionary

When I had windows XP I had the Oxford Interactive Encyclopedia installed and it included a brilliant dictionary. Unfortunately my computer decided to have a "fry-up" inside so I had to buy a new one. This one has the crappy Windows 8 on it and my encyclopedia disc is not compatible with this soppy machine. Can anyone tell me how I can obtain at least a dictionary which I can install on this heap and use as and when I want. Thank you in advance.
