The computer has to be on for it to run a scan.

If you want it to run a scan in the middle of the night leave he computer on before you go to bed.
You've set an impossible rule. You've set it to run a time which you admit the pc will not be on. When you start up the pc will follow your instructions and will set a scan for 2am next day, knowing that it has already missed the scan for that day because it was not switched on.
I'm less familiar with McAfee but, "only when plugged in" ? Plugged into what, the mains power ? It seems a strange option to me.
As VHG has said "The computer has to be on for it to run a scan."

Anyway, why is it so important for you to run a scan at 2am.?

Ron.
