If you send someone a message via facebook and you are not one of their friends do they get an e-mail notification? If not do you have to wait until they log on and if so will they just see the name of the sender or the first few words of the message as well?

I just sent a message to someone I'm not Friended with, and I didn't get an email when they replied - I just got an alert on my FB home page.
I think they get an email notification. Believe I contacted someone this way as, though not a 'friend', I needed to communicate with them.
Oh, OK boxtops could be right.

So when you got a reply boxy did you just see the name in your messages or could you see the first few words as well? Presumably there's the option to ignore or delete.
That really depends how they have their notifications set up, mine is set so I dont receive any notifications by email. I dont know anything about messages until I log in to Face book.
I had a number (1) highlighted top left where FB tell me that someone's responded to me. When I clicked on it, it dropped down a list of recent replies so I could click on the one I wanted to open.

Yes I know where I'll see the '1'. When you did the drop down could you just see the name or could you see the first line of the message? This is the important bit I'm trying to ask.
Both, prudie - the name and the first few words.

AAh good, thank you.
Many people that use FB have it set up on their phone, too. It bleeps when a message is received. Don't know if this info is useful or not, but thought i'd pass it on!
