Windows 8 Live Mail

I've just got Windows 8, and while the mail system won't accept my old POP3 account with NTL I've read it can also run Windows Live Mail so I can import my old contacts etc. Currently the only email on the system is the new one, how would I get the old style Windows Live Mail as it doesn't appear to be loaded on the system at all?

NTL, presumably NTLWorld, service also has an IMAP Service available, settings info listed below.

It does seem there's an IMAP option, however I didn't know before disconnecting the old PC, and appears I may have needed to change the settings in OE before saving it on the external disc. The second possibility is to import whatever they store online (just my inbox apparently) over to the new email system, but so far when I opened it it asked me for an account, I entered my NTL details and the screen just went white. I am making progress but yet to open an email program on the desktop. I think I will be able to run NTL from here without any further software but if it won't perform at all will save it as a reserve. There must be a standard protocol to set up an account on Windows 8 and will use IMAP now, but so far it's literally only provided a blank screen when I tried.

Update, the Windows 8 menu actually has two email programmes, one which I tried and does nothing, and the page is a few pages wide, if you scroll right to the other end you find Windows Mail so all is sorted. I've no idea what the other mail program does and won't be touching it again now.

Good to here you are sorted. I would guess that the mail program that isn't working is probably a download from the App store and as I have found some of those function correctly!

As D97x7 suggested earlie,r there is also the option of downloading and installing the Microsoft Windows Live Mail client which supports both IMAP and POP mail.

Its worth noting that when you download and install programs / applications the default location is for windows to put them on the new style Metro Window with all the other Apps and it can stretch over a number of screens, as you appear to have discovered!

You can use Windows Live Mail with Windows 8 the only thing you have to do is enable NET Framework 3.5 before you install your Windows Live Mail program. Navigate to Control Panel , Turn Windows Feautures on or off find the NET Framework 3.5 and tick it to turn it on then apply it and your done. Load Windows Live Mail and it will work as it did previously in Windows 7.
