Laptop Gives Up

further to my recent threads about spilling coffee on my keyboard and very helpful replies. While I was procrastinating about buying a new keyboard I switched on this morning and the laptop has lost all its default data. I was advised to fit a new keyboard to cure the keying problem but would that be pointless now? Would the new keyboard reset everything or is it a case for 'the professionals'?

Could you expand a bit more on what you mean by default data?

Does the Windows System bootup ok, if not what error messages do you see on screen?

I also ruined my laptop with a spillage. The solution for me was to buy a desktop type keyboard with a USB and use that. I don't use my laptop much any more but the keyboard only cost £3 in a charity shop. I just place it over the keyboard so that I can still use the mouse board.

windows does not start up at all and i get on screen what look like typed startup details (not windows) requesting me to press options to reload to get it going.

If your keyboard still isn't working get a cheap usb keyboard (less than a fiver in stores like Tesco) and use that to see if you can the laptop going again.

A spare keyboard is a useful thing to have in any case.

Make sure that there is no Disk left in the DVD / CD Drive, assuming there is a Drive fitted, or if there are any USB devices coonected remove those, then restart the machine.

If the problem persists, I could do with knowing a few more details,

What is the make and model number of the laptop?
What is the Microsoft Windows version that is installed?

The computer asked me to press F2 which was very confusing. When i pressed enter it booted up as normal. Put a new keyboard in for £9 and everything is working fine. I wonder how much an expert would have charged. Thanks again.
