1GB is technically 2 * 30 = 1,073,741,824 bytes
Most hard drive manufacturers will class a GB as 1,000,000,000 bytes, but Windows classes a GB as 2^30
So when you install a hard drive a 120GB one will show in Windows as 120 / 1.073 = 111GB.
