If you were given a binary set of 01s written in analogue form, how could you work out whether it was digital audio or a visual?

I guess what you're saying is that you could have a file with no idea what data it contains? Unsure what is meant by binary 0 and 1s in analogue form. Contradiction isn't it ?
It is just binary data. Unless it was in a file you recognised or had something else to recoginse in the data, I don't think you can tell. Possibly the best you could do is feed it into an app that expects audio data and see if what plays makes sense. Or feed into an ap that expects visual data and see if it can make sense of it.

There are also "graphic explorer" utilities where you can examine the data visually to see if there's any bitmap data. There's also a chance the data could be compressed, so only the program it was created with could make sense of it. A hexademical file viewer (e.g. Hex Workshop) might be useful.
For printed info, if there's not too many digits, you could use Hex Workshop to create the actual file and then analyse it.
