I have an old HP LaserJet 4P printer that's been used for light home use since new. I have just replaced the toner cartridge but the print is very, very feint. I ordered another cartridge and that's the same which points to the printer itself being faulty. My OH has taken the printer apart to clean the laser but this didn't solve the problem. Can anyone give me any ideas as how to get the printer working properly before we get rid of it as when it works it's brilliant!!
He's cleaned the mirror and the transfer roller. Looks like it's the fuser unit as you say unless anyone else has any other suggestions? Thanks to those who've commented so far.
clutching at straws but, do you shake up the toner cartidge as per the instructions.
the toner can all settle and get clumped up at the wrong end if theyre stored the wrong way.
Also sometimes you can get a fair few more prints doing this from what seems to be an empty cartridge.
worth a try, nothing to lose, cant think of anything else obvious to be honest
If there's a problem with the fuser, then the toner will not stick to the page and can easily by rubbed off. If the toner sticks properly to the page, but is faint, then that is much more likely to be a problem with the transfer roller.
