I am currently using broadband from Ntl with usual cabling everywhere. I am moving to a new house and would likeI to go wireless next.My question will sound stupid and I apologise in advance but I'm completely non techie.
Does the router plug into my modem that sits beside my desktop pc or will it plug into the downstairs set-top box. Other than the cable into my lounge and set top box-are there further wires running to my pc upstairs. I actually thought wireless meant no cables running up walls to the upstairs computer- am I totally confused or what?
Thanks to anyone who replies.

(router and modem two seperate things) wireless facility built into the router, from there u can either plug a 2nd ethernet cable (if u want to plug it into your pc) into the pc, or plug a wirless network card into your pc to then pick up the signal from the router. then u can have the pc that is wireless anywhere in the house if u go wireless rather than a 2nd ethernet cable. however the modem and router will still have to be close to the set top box that supplies the broadband but if u have gone wireless then the only cables are from the set top box to the modem and then to the router.
Hope that is simple enough?
If not then:
Set Top Box ---> Modem------>Router----->EITHER Cable connection to PC, Or Wireless connection to PC
I have NTL cable broadband and recently set up a wireless network. If your pc has built in wireless technology (wlan),you will not need a wireless card or adaptor, you will only need to buy a router. My set up is as follows.
Ntl cable from box on the wall connects to the NTL modem.
Cable from Ntl modem connects to wireless router. If your pc has built in wlan it will automatically detect the connection.
easy peasy. The only problem I had was securing the connection so that my neighbours could not access my connection, but after asking a few questions on AB,I managed to secure my connection. If you are not worried too much about someone else accessing your connection you should be able to go wireless as soon as your pc recognises the connection.
