Register a webpage

I would like to register a webpage for a small web based business venture I intend to set up in approx a year and a half, I am going to spend this time learning how to design, edit (work out what I'm talking about) etc. but I am keen to purchase the name I want now, I have checked that this is available on www.123-reg.co.uk, but wondered if anyone can offer me any advice on whether this is a good company to purchase through, or what I should be looking out for when choosing a company to register a name. Any advice / recommendations would be great, thanks all � undercovers

www.1and1.co.uk is a good place to look - you can check the availability of names and pick a hosting package all in one go - it's made pretty easy to understand if it's all new to you.

Another registrar to consider (despite the silly name) is Godaddy ( http://www.godaddy.com ).  It's one of the largest registrars in the world, offers very low prices and I've registered multiple domains there over several years with no problems at all.  Nice user-friendly interface for managing your domains, too.  I particularly appreciate the fact they send emails reminding me that my domains are coming up for renewal, because I've had domains expire in the past when I've forgotten to renew them.  I don't have personal experience of them as a webhost, but I know several professional web designers who use them for their own sites and also recommend them to clients.
