Ipad Problem

My friend Stan (yes, really) has a problem with his iPad. He cannot get rid of the iCloud Backup panel which pops up occasionally, even if he presses either of the Ignore or Settings buttons. This is the first time it's got stuck apparently. Nothing else will function now. What should he do?

If the screen has frozen and he cannot do anything.
Press in the off button and the big round home key at the same time and when you get the apple logo let go.
Turn off then back on again and should be fine
