Extra Handset Registration To A Bt Synergy 5500 Base.

We recently ordered an extra handset for out BT Synergy 5500 base phone.
Even though I followed the instructions carefully it has stubbornly refused to register. An ideas why it wont recognise the base?

At which point in the instructions on page 56 of the user guide break down?

Have you tried resetting both units, as suggested here?

If the phone is in warranty, have you tried the Support Desk on 0800 145 6789 ? (It might be worth giving them a try even if the phone is out of warranty).
